Loss, Faith, and the Making of Powers of Death

In book three “Powers of Death”—murder and death took on added significance when my youngest brother, Bill passed away this spring after complications from kidney failure. I was already probing death more deeply than in my earlier mysteries and this loss—sharp and humbling—pushed me (and Sabina) to look toward the assurance of our true home. Paul says it plainly. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, then, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5: 7-8)

What’s Happening…

Speaking of “Powers of Death”— the first draft is complete.  I will be sending it to the publisher to start the laborious task of editing and re-writing, cover art, back cover blurb, etc. Know that with each step the book, message and story improve for you the reader—so it is worth it!

Behind the Scenes

Each novel in the Secrets of Ephesus series has needed research into specific areas of the first-century church: doctrine and worship, public spectacles, and the hierarchies that shaped daily life. The scorn of the “Cult of Christianity” as Rome branded it, and persecution threads through every story, driving choices Sabina and others make—or must make. Sabina slips beneath suspicion only because her father swore to his dying wife to let their daughter worship Christ. That vow fractures their bond and in “Powers of Death,” becomes a deadly flashpoint.
